Whakamārama:

He momo kai i hēria mai i Hawaiiki. Ka whakatōkia, ko te pūtake i kainga. Kua kore noa atu i whakatipuria.

Scope Note:

The plant which produces yam tubers. Introduced by Māori, it has never naturalised and does not survive in the wild. Dioscorea sativa. The most common yam of commerce is probably D. alata.
