He tono, he whakawhetai na te tohunga ki ngā Atua.

Scope Note:

Intoned incantations or spells. A karakia is a dialogue with the gods carried out by a tohunga/priest. Use this term in the traditional sense rather than in its contemporary Christian equivalent of prayer.
