Whakamārama:

Ko te tikanga whakaea i te mahi kino, kōrero kino, mate kino. I ēnei wā, ko te moni e tukuna ana mō te hoko taonga, taputapu rānei, mō ngā mahi rānei.

A principle of Māori justice, involving just retribution for insult, ill-will, etc. In modern times also used in the sense of "price".
